There are so many wonderful things about this new petunia that it’s only a question of which merit you personally prefer! Do you love Horizon Yellow because it’s one of the few yellow petunias in the world, shading from butter through primrose and finally to white at the edges? Or what about its incredibly quick flowering from seed — just 5 weeks on average?! Then there’s its multiflora habit, which gives you many, many blooms over a long season on lush plants as suitable for bedding as they are for containers. And finally, its reaction to rain — it bounces right back, instead of staying tightly closed like older petunias. So — new color, quick maturity, long and heavy bloomtime, and weatherproof flowers. What’s not to love about this terrific new petunia?
Horizon Yellow reaches about 12 inches high and 12 to 15 inches wide. As a multiflora, technically it’s a trailing type, but this plant is actually more bushy, which means you can plant it in the annual bed without it flopping. Of course, it looks amazing in flowerpots and windowboxes as well, its 2 1/2- to 3-inch blooms crowding one another for position. Don’t fall in love with the soft green foliage, because you won’t be seeing much of it once Horizon Yellow begins its long, long season of bloom!
If you’ve grown petunias before, you know that on overcast or rainy days, the flowers (sensibly) remain shut. Their petals are somewhat fragile, and they take a while to recover from wet conditions. Well, Horizon Yellow doesn’t seem to have any sense where the weather is concerned — and that’s all the better for you! Its blooms stay wide open during rain and seem to shake it off, never sulking or drooping. This is a petunia with an “all blooms, all the time” attitude! What could be more delightful for garden and container? Pkt is 50 seeds.
